Dubai, UAE, November 15, 2015: Wasl marked World Diabetes Day with a free medical check-up for its tenants. The real estate management company – a subsidiary of Wasl – joined with healthcare provider Mediclinic to invite its Bur Dubai customers to Wasl vita mall for a complementary health screening, which took place on Thursday, November 12, from 4-9pm.
Wasl customers attending the programme had their heart rate, blood pressure and blood cholesterol levels checked, as well as their Body Mass Index assessed. Visitors’ blood sugar levels were taken to look for possible diabetes, which is a significant problem in this part of the world.
After the readings were analysed, the attendees were able to receive a free consultation from the medical professionals about their lifestyle and how they can improve their health, with the educators providing important tips on diet, shedding extra pounds and taking up safe levels of exercise. The afternoon and evening initiative formed part of Wasl’s CSR programme that is dedicated to giving back to the community.
Held on November 14 each year, World Diabetes Day is a global health awareness campaign introduced in 1991 by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) and the World Health Organisation in response to the ever-increasing incidence of diabetes. The 7th Edition of the IDF Diabetes Atlas highlights that at present there are 415 million adults living with diabetes around the world, with the figure likely to rise to 642 million by 2040.
